Burning clutches out Raptor 50 Titan
Question:
Hi, I would appreciate some advice please, I changed my clutch this afternoon for the third time, in as many months. A highly experienced and respected pilot tested the new clutch, which was fine, I continued to hover on about half a tank of fuel, I refuelled, the engine screamed as I started it, at the same time several other aircraft crashed and others also experienced interference, I pulled the fuel line to cut the engine as the cut off switch on the handset didn¡¯t work. We managed to re start the heli again he tested it that was when we noticed the vibration indicating that the clutch fitted a flight earlier had burnt out. Fortunately Len was checking my heli and noticed that my handset had changed from pcm to ppm, he changed it back, strange as we had both flown it earlier. The transmitter is a Futaba 9CHP super model 9CP-PCM35 super. As for the first two clutches I am completely baffled, admittedly I am a novice and have been told that it is due to short hops which causes the clutches to burn out but no one else seems to have had the same experience even a local model shop manager has never known anyone to go through as many clutches as I have and certainly not in such a short space of time. If you have any theories as to why they last a calendar month, only flying at weekends weather permitting would be greatly appreciated. Are there are any other linings I could use which should be more durable? Many Thanks Kind Regards Isabelle
Answer:
Dear Isabelle, Thank you for the mail. Our technical staffs have answered your questions as followed. Please advice the customer to do some matters as below: 1) Please make sure the liner inside the clutch bell is well before the engine screams. If the liner has been worn away seriously, please replace it in case that the clutch locks the liner in the idle RPM on the ground. 2) If the fling block in each side of the clutch are opened, please push the fling block back to same position of the circle. It will be more useful to keep the clutch rather than to buy a new one. But the main problem is the clutch has a bigger gap between the liner and clutch. 3) If the black liner can not meet your needs, please replace it with the blue one of R90. The parts number is PV0324. But it's too long for Raptor50, you must modify it by yourself.
