Manager/ Chief Engineer - Connecting Rod Failure Pro 39H
Question:
Dear Sirs, I am writing to advise that since my purchase in July 2006 of a V2 ARF Thunder Tiger Raptor 30 Helicopter, I have had 2 engine failures concerning con rods. The latest problem I have attached photos showing the end result. The engine has had approx 4 tanks of fuel through it since new, so almost 'run in'. The fuel mix I am using is 65% methanol, 20% synth oil, 15% nitro. On both occassions there has been no signs of lean running (overheating) so can only assume that the cause is possible defective materials. In both engines it has been 'little end' failure. No overrevving of the engines has been done. If you could please view the photos and provide feedback on your thoughts of the failures, with a view to upgrading or improving the con rod quality for the future. Forwarded for your information and comments, look forward to your reply, regards Peter Malins
Answer:
Dear Peter, Thank you for the mail. So far there is no one who has contacted us with similar problems especially in materials. Our technical staffs initially think it more possible to be the lean running and overheating according to the photos. The setting of the needles is the major cause. The fuel you use is fine and has little to do with the problem. Please feel free to contact our authorized distributor in Australia as followed who has been professional in r/c models. ACEHOBBY DIST.
